Palmanova
The perfect city
Founded in 1593, Palma was a fortress shaped like a nine-pointed star, surrounded by massive Venetian bulwarks and French fortifications of the Napoleonic period. According to the Renaissance studies the city layout was considered perfect. The city had also a strategic role for the defence of the eastern borders of the Venetian Republic against the Turkish raids and in warding off hegemonic initiatives of Austria.
You reach the city through 3 big gates on the main roads going through the city.
